LINCOLN COUNTY ADOPT-A-FAMILY PROGRAM
This program is a community resource for Lincoln County residents to apply for assistance in providing Christmas for their families. Anyone can adopt these families, whether it is individuals, groups, churches, classmates, co-workers, teams, scouts.
WHAT IS THE PROCESS?
Applicants are required to participate in a 2-step interview process. The first step is verification that they are eligible to apply and are required to supply supporting documentation. Information needed includes a photo I.D., social security cards for all family members, Proof of residency by both rent/mortgage information and a utility bill, and Proof of income including paystubs, bank statements for direct deposit, social security/child support/disability/unemployment declaration forms. They also sign a release of information for our team to coordinate with other agencies in effort to greater all applicants’ chances to be adopted.
HOW DO WE “ADOPT” A FAMILY?
Once you have chosen the family you want to “adopt”, you need to contact a member of our Adoption Team. They will then provide you with a form with complete details given by the applicant. Specifically focusing on NEEDS for the family, information as sizes (shirts, pants, shoes, and coats) as well as household needs will be indicated. The family is then removed from the list of families still needing to be adopted and the family is notified that they have been adopted.
By adopting a family, we are hoping that each member will be able to receive at least one item from their list. It is completely up to the “Adopter” the amount of items the family members will receive. What child doesn’t have a “wish list” at Christmas? Keeping this in mind, we asked the applicants if there is something the children have asked for or that the parents would like to see them receive. Please remember, for some, this may be the only presents they will have to open this year.
HELPFUL INFORMATION:
Please keep in mind that the majority of our family’s are on fixed or low income, unemployed, or disabled. Many of them are receiving FoodStamps, which helps tremendously, but sometimes doesn’t last an entire month. This benefit does not allow them to purchase anything that is not edible, which leaves them at times doing without hygiene and cleaning supplies. To assist you in providing for these families, we have documented if these are a NEED for their particular family. Some adopters have chosen to make a “basket” filled with these items in addition to their gifts. LifePointe is also a host site for AngelFood ministries, which is an awesome opportunity for families of all incomes. This is an additional option for you to provide for the family as a onetime benefit or as a monthly gift all year round. For just $30 you can get enough food to feed a family of 4 for one week! And after purchasing this signature box, you may add a variety of other packages also. Visit www.lifepointetroy.com , select the Life 4 Community tab and follow to Angelfood Ministries for more information.
WHAT DO WE DO WHEN WE ARE DONE SHOPPING?
Once you have gathered all of your presents, you may choose to wrap them or leave that enjoyment to the families. If you plan to wrap the items, we suggest that you label the packages by age/gender and even keep all of each individual’s gifts in separate bags. We are asking that all donations are concealed in either black trash bags or boxes this year. Please clearly mark the family number on the outside. This is both for privacy and organization!
Donations are to be dropped off at 520 E. Cherry Street on or by December 5th. You will need to schedule a drop-off day and time with your Adoption Team member. Tax donation receipts are available upon request (you must retain ALL of your receipts).
WHEN DO THE FAMILIES RECEIVE THE PACKAGES?
On Saturday, December 19th, the families will come to the pick-up location and team members will load their vehicles with all of your blessings. Anyone is welcome to volunteer to be a part of this wonderful day. This is a community project!
